Regarding the FTC's challenge of Sysco Corp.'s merger with US Foods Inc. and Staples Inc.'s merger with Office Depot Inc., Rick said, "There were opportunities to settle both Sysco and Staples. I can't speak to whether another commission would have accepted them or not, but she was clearly willing to go to the mattresses on these cases....She obviously had tremendous faith in the agency's ability to litigate, and that seems to have been born out."
