9th Annual National HBCU Pre-Law Summit

On September 17, Axinn associate Andrea Rivers co-moderated two panels at the 9th Annual National HBCU Pre-Law Summit in Washington, DC.

During "HBCU Graduates and the Transition to PWI Law Schools and PWI Graduates and the Transition to HBCU Law Schools: Coping and Leadership Strategies for Diplomatically Dealing with Issues of Race During Your Law School Years," law students affiliated with HBCUs discussed the impact attending HBCUs for their undergraduate degrees had on their transition to PWI (predominantly white institution) law schools. Panelists also shared resources in regard to mental health and building up community and support so that law school aspirants have the tools to navigate the challenges of race in law school and in legal environments. 

During "Planning and Preparing for Law School Success Both Inside and Outside of Class: Advice for Making the Most of the Academic, Co-Curricular and Extra-Curricular Experience," panelists discussed how to best prepare for law school success both inside and outside the classroom by preparing for the academic demands of law school; developing positive relationships with professors and administration; and getting involved in co-curricular and extracurricular activities and which are most valuable to students' professional careers.
